Edgy Women

Mid-Mar, 2009 (TBA)
It’s hard to find words to describe this annual women’s theatre/dance/multi-media/experimental performance festival that takes place every March, but “edgy” is paramount. Most of the works have some sort of feminist, socially conscious content, sometimes politically correct, sometimes not at all. You never know what to expect when you walk through the door, but you can count on being entertained while challenged and sometimes you’ll bust a gut laughing.

Le Boudoir

Jun, 2009 (TBA)
This annual lesbian cabaret extravaganza is one of the highlights of the Montreal dyke scene. Usually held over a couple of evenings in early summer, this bilingual theatre experience harkens back to the fantasy of Berlin nightclubs of the 1920s. The acts change every year, but performers hail from across North America. Expect to see everything from fan dances to fire spinners to naughty, naughty plays written just for us girls.  Organizers took a break in 2008 and will hopefully be back in 2009.

Festival des Arts

Jul 2 - Jul 5, 2009
The main street in the gay village is closed for days during this annual outdoor arts festival held at the end of June. Tons of booths line the street, filled with all the LGBT art you could ever imagine and then some you’d rather not (another plaster-cast penis anyone???)

Divers/Cité

Jul 26 - Aug 2, 2009

This used to be one of the biggest gay-pride celebrations in North America, drawing in hundreds of thousands of queer folk for this annual week-long festival.... but over the past couple of years less people have attended.  All the same, it's a good party and do not miss Lesbomonde, the biggest dyke party of the year in Montreal. But buy tickets early as it’s often sold out or you’re stuck waiting forever in line as you watch all the cute girls who planned ahead just saunter right in. One piece of Divers/Cité weirdness though… in 2007, Divers/Cité decided it was no longer going to do a parade. When that happened, a new group formed (Célébrations LGBTA Montréal) and organized their own Pride Parade and festival which in 2009 will likely take place a couple of weeks after Divers/Cité.

Célébrations LGBTA Montréal

Mid-Aug, 2009 (TBA)

Montreal's become a bit weird with its pride celebrations.  In 2007 Divers/Cité, the official pride organizers, decided they weren't going to do a parade anymore.  Montrealers were flabbergasted, and a rival group formed: Célébrations LGBTA Montréal.  In 2008 they held a separate pride weekend a couple of weeks following Divers/Cité which had a huge parade, and they have even bigger plans in mind for 2009.
